Qingdao, China - A new coach has been appointed to lead the Qingdao City Soccer Club (QSC) back into the top flight after being relegated last season.
The club announced on Wednesday that former Chinese Super League (CSL) champion Jiang Wenpeng will be taking over as head coach from former Shanghai SIPG and Shanghai Shenhua player Guo Liangming.
Jiang is a veteran of Chinese football who previously led Jiangsu U23 team to their first ever title at the 2019 China Cup. He also won the AFC Champions League with Guangzhou Evergrande in 2017.
Guo had been the club's assistant coach since the start of this season and was instrumental in helping Qingdao achieve its first ever win in the league.
In his new role, Jiang will aim to improve Qingdao's results by developing a strong squad and creating a winning mentality among players.
"We're excited to have Jiang as our new coach," said Qingdao City Soccer Club president Wang Xiaodong. "His experience and knowledge of the Chinese football scene will help us get back to where we belong."
Qingdao City Soccer Club has struggled to compete consistently in recent seasons and they are looking forward to having Jiang as their leader. The club has already made some changes to strengthen its squad and prepare for the upcoming season.
"Since Jiang took over, we've seen a significant improvement in our performances," said Qingdao City Soccer Club vice-president Zhou Xunping. "We're confident he can continue to lead our team towards success."
With Jiang Wenpeng leading the way, Qingdao City Soccer Club hopes to bounce back and make it back into the top flight soon. The club has already started preparations for the upcoming season and is hoping to put together a strong squad that can take them to the next level.
"In the meantime, I want to express my gratitude to Guo Liangming for his contributions to Qingdao's success," said Wang Xiaodong. "He has helped us achieve many achievements and we will always remember him."
