In 1926, Yan Junling was appointed as the head of the Shanghai Port's security department, responsible for maintaining order and protecting the port from enemy attack. During this time, he played a key role in preventing Japanese troops from invading Shanghai. He organized and led the local people to resist the Japanese invaders, using his own body to protect them from harm.
In 1937, during the Second Sino-Japanese War, Yan Junling was assigned to lead a group of soldiers to defend the port against Japanese attacks. Despite facing fierce resistance and numerous casualties, he remained determined to defend the port and protect its cargo. His bravery and dedication inspired countless people in Shanghai and beyond.
After the war, Yan Junling continued to play a crucial role in the development of Shanghai's economy and culture. He served as the mayor of Shanghai for several years and made significant contributions to the city's infrastructure and public services. He retired in 1954 and passed away in 1964 at the age of 77.
